History
The Ark was officially founded in 2023, but its roots extend back over a decade—built not from policy, but from purpose and persistence.

Our journey began between 2011 and 2020 with a small, unincorporated freelance collective called , Writers Corner. A group of 1099 technical writers and creatives, we offered discounted branding, technical writing, and procurement training to MBEs, LBEs, SBEs, and local governments throughout the Greater Bay Area. Operating on minimal resources—at times just 12MB of shared data—we quietly helped clients secure millions in municipal contracts, including:

-
Port of Oakland – appx. $205,000
-
Alameda County – appx. $300,000
-
Los Angeles Metro – appx. $36 million
-
LA Housing Auth. – appx. $1 million
-
City of Newport Beach – appx. $100,000

By 2020, we had assisted small & minority-owned businesses in winning over $54 million in contracts, fueled entirely by technical writing, SMO, SEO, word of mouth and a commitment to equitable access.

But as our impact grew, so did our awareness of the urgent crises behind those business stories: housing instability, violence, and immediate unmet needs. The gaps in support called for a new kind of response.

In 2023, we launched The Ark—a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit and Mutual Benefit Corporation—to provide mobile crisis services to unhoused individuals and survivors of violence. An anticipated evolution in our communal commitments.
The freelancers who powered Writers Corner became the foundation of the Creative Corner at The Ark, an internal department continuing to provide discounted technical assistance, grant writing, and procurement training—supporting small businesses and nonprofits
Together, The Ark and Creative Corner share a singular mission: to walk beside communities from crisis to capacity.
